Summoning a Sea Demon as Community Art

What is a demon if not the shared manifestation of a community’s creative intersubjectivity. Take Hobbe’s Leviathan. It is not simply a visual metaphor but a real and manifested structuring of peoples relations in the form of the leviathan king. How do we talk about and negotiate social forms that transcend reductive rationals and conventional measurement?

We can submit to the leviathan king or we can creatively play with our communities shared complexity through the medium of community art. A way to summon our demon, to manifest what is greater than ourselves ‘our collectivity’ within a much larger collectivety. In this vein I led the summoning of the Margate Sea Demon as a momentary medium through which to explore and play outside of conventional wisdom.

UPDATE: This event returned with ‘Demon Rising’ in 2022
